and now what?
And Now What? is a performance/workshop which explores themes of choice, citizenship, personal and social responsibility and peer pressure and at the same time introduces young people to the power and excitement of live theatre. It is directly linked to the PSE framework, in particular to:

clwyd theatr cymru

The play and workshop were originally developed (by the same team) in Catalonia where it played to considerable success. Now it has been completely restructured and re-written for a modern young audience in Wales.

In the play, four friends who are each at the point of making a major choice about their lives suddenly find themselves at the centre of a tragedy that forces them to re-consider everything. The experience of And Now What? is unique in that the audience is involved in the choices the characters make and, through a workshop that “breaks out” from the drama from time to time, the audience can advise the actors of appropriate action.

“A clever and thought provoking piece. The students enjoyed the work and responded well. The piece raised interesting issues and forced them to think.
Thank you.”
Alison Grant Ryder, Maelor School.

“Mwynhaodd y disgyblion yn fawr gan werthfawrogi’r cyfle i gymryd rhan yn y gwaith. Roedd gwrandawiad y disgyblion yn arbennig o dda ac roeddent yn amlwg wedi elwa wrth ystyried dewisiadau’r cymeriadau. Roeddent hefyd yn sylweddoli bod penderfyniadau yn gallu cael effaith hir dymor ar bobl / gobeithio byddant yn sylweddoli hyn wrth ddewis eu pynciau eleni. Diolch yn fawr.”
Gwawr Meirion, Ysgol Glan Clwyd.

Mrs Barr-Lloyd, St. Brigid’s School.

“Educationally the play introduces some rather awkward concepts about life and events which influence people’s futures but it was presented in a humorous fashion which made the pupils interested and involved.”

Ysgol Bryn Alyn.

“An excellent drama that delivers thought provoking ideas and needs I am sure we will discuss in the future. Diolch yn fawr.”

“I asked the children what they thought of the performance and they came up with the following words: brilliant, exciting, funny, energetic, rib tickling!, thought-provoking. The students also commented that they loved the style of acting and the conventions that were used and they want to use them in their drama.”
Nikki Davies, Ysgol Rhiwabon.

“Excellent – performance & workshop. Thought-provoking, challenging and engaging.”

“Thoroughly enjoyed watching our pupils bloom under your guidance – come back next year please?”
St Joseph’s High School, Wrexham.

“The majority of kids were engaged for the whole of the performance. They did enjoy the interactive sessions although tended to be quiet during the Q&A. They made impressive observations. Many thanks to all the performers, you made the situations very real and entertaining.”
Kath Williams, Ysgol Castell Alun.

“It was clearly enjoyable by all students of all abilities. They clearly identified with the play. The questions raised were both relevant to them (and us as teachers) and they responded to the questions. Maybe a room elsewhere to debate and then give feedback back in the hall.”
Brian Ward, Alun School.

“Excellent issues, very well explained. Possibly pupils in back rows needed a chance to speak. Dilemmas – complex, but realistic.”
Tina Luky, Alun School.

“Unfortunately I missed the first half – a real shame because the group seemed totally engrossed with the performance. The Q&A sessions aroused sensitive and thoughtful answers. My class’ response – fantastic!”
Beth Cameron, Alun School.

“All pupils were totally engaged. They responded well to the developing storyline. Had good ideas in the plenary. Very much aware of the issues and that it wasn’t necessarily the right thing to tell – just to make them feel better. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was clear from their behaviour that they enjoyed it also.”
Kathy Brewster, John Summers High School.

“Excellent. The acting was excellent. A very plausible scenario (taught a lad who died in similar circumstances) and the discussion led sensitively and in a way that kept the discussion going.”
Marian Frith, Castell Alun High School.

“An excellent production, thought provoking. The interaction of the young children in the audience was to be applauded. Do come along and visit more schools – in Denbighshire next.”

Jackie Jeory, Blessed Edward Jones High School.

“Excellent – the performance really enabled the young people to think deeply about the issues. The way you all helped the young people to use language to describe their feelings was wonderful. Thank you.”
