Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic tells the story of three generations of the Joan family, forced to leave their tenanted farm in the Oklahoma Dust Bowl by the Great Depression of the 1930s.

Heading west, to the lush lands of California, is their only hope of keeping everyone together and finding Ma's dream of plenty of work and a little white house with oranges growing around.

A compelling human drama on a grand scale, The Grapes of Wrath is the moving story of the displaced farmworkers's struggle for survival which also asks the deepest questions about justice, freedom and the cost of the American dream.

On publication in 1939, The Grapes of Wrath caused widespread controversy across America.  It was banned by school boards, condemned by pastors, campaigned against by farmers associations and even burned by the Library Board of St Louis, Illinois. None of this prevented it becoming a best seller, never out of print since publication and acclaimed as one of the greatest American novels.

The Grapes of Wrath is presented in a new adaptation for the stage by Tim Baker, Clwyd Theatr Cymru's award-winning Associate Director.  His previous productions include To Kill a Mockingbird, Of Mice and Men and The Way It Was.
