Greenfield Ghetto Drama Group

The phenomenally successful 18 month Heritage Lottery Project based in Greenfield Valley is coming to an end but the Greenfield Ghetto Group lives on.

Clwyd Theatr Cymru Theatre for Young People (CTCTYP) recognised as being one of the foremost practitioners in Wales working for and with young people, were approached by Greenfield Valley Heritage Site to see if some way could be found to engage hard to reach young people in a creative project, which would lead to a greater understanding and respect for the valley itself.

Thanks to £24,900 awarded from the Heritage Lottery Fund and in partnership with Flintshire County Council Youth Services, Greenfield Heritage Park and Libraries and Museums, Clwyd Theatr Cymru's Theatre for Young People helped the young people in the setting up of a drama groupd in their own community to research the history of the Valley.  This culminated in a fanastic performance created by the young participants, called "Unlocking Time" with coies of the script being distributed to schools in the area.  With their new found confidence and skills gained from the experience, the Greenfield Ghetto Drama Group began a journey of securing its financial future.  Thanks to the campaigning undertaken by the young people themselves, Holywell Town Council has voted unanimously to back the group, and to aid its future with practical financial support.  Thanks to Holywell Town Council Support, Communities First have also stepped in to help secure the future of the group, and to ensure that the Theatre can still provide the group with Drama Access free at the point of delivery to all of the young people.

Drama Outreach Worker, Emyr John, working with the group commented "Without the support of The Heritage Lottery Fund for this project these amazing young people would never have travelled this road of discovery... of themselves and their culture".
